2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG
A lovely car and a seriously underrated model

A modern car built to the traditional prescription of putting a big engine in a small roadster body. The R171 SLK55 is powered by an AMG-built normally-aspirated 5.5-litre V8 driving through a 7-speed gearbox with paddle shift and full auto modes. In its time, a lightly-modified version was quick enough to see service as the F1 Safety Car. Now, it’s an enjoyable throwback to a time when engine size was almost everything.

This lightly-used and very well-maintained example in Obsidian Black with black nappa leather inside has covered just over 20,000 miles in a small number of hands. To continue the F1 connection, it was ordered directly from the manufacturer – with a long list of specified extras, including sat nav, parktronic and phone prep – by Bernie Ecclestone and first registered to Slavica Ecclestone at a London address. A lovely car and a seriously underrated model.
